Phillips headlines All-MIAA selections

After wrapping up an MIAA Title, Northwest Missouri State University also left an impact on the all-conference football team, too.

Spencer Phillips was named MIAA Defensive Player of the Year as 20 Bearcats received postseason honors.

Phillips was a bully to opposing offenses throughout the season recording 45 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, a league-high eight sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

The senior from Tabor, Iowa is the 10th Bearcat to be named defensive player of the year since 2000.

Along with Phillips, offensive lineman Tanner Owen and safety Blake Bayer were named 1st Team All-MIAA.

Owen is a back-to-back first team all-conference player. He's started all 36 games of his collegiate career, and is an anchor to an offensive line that has allowed a league-low 10 sacks.

Bayer led Northwest with 68 tackles, and was second on the team with 11 passes defensed and 10 pass break ups.
